This is leading to a lot of users who don't understand what enabling TRIM in Yosemite entails to all of a sudden be stuck and not be able to get into their system, leading to forum posts directing them to the proper fix. The other big issue is that, if you either reset the PRAM or install a system update that does it, your machine will flip kext singing back on automatically, and then will refuse to boot since the hacked kext that enables TRIM is not signed. Garbage Collection and TRIM are not the same thing at all, but it has created this myth in the Mac community that TRIM is no longer needed for newer SSDs. I think that started when OWC claimed all of their SSDs don't need it, and tried to confuse consumers by saying they have automatic "garbage collection". TRIM is still really important, regardless of what some people say.
